Partenza comoda intorno alle 9:00. Il cielo era coperto, ma le previsioni davano speranze di miglioramento.

We started comfortably around 9:00. The sky was cloudy, but the weather forecast was making us hope for better.

Da subito, ci immergiamo nella marea colorata e confusa di pellegrini. Per chi arriva dal Primitivo, l’affollamento del Francese può far sentire storditi, spaesati. Ormai le persone che eravamo abituati ad incontrare si confondono nella massa errante e ci sentiamo fuori luogo, soli nella moltitudine. Per esperienza, so che è una sensazione che svanirà domani, quando arriveremo a Santiago. Basta aspettare!

From now, we are immersed in the coloured and confused wave of pilgrims. For those arriving from the Camino Primitivo, the one we did this time, the mass of people along the French Camino might feel dizzy and disoriented. The people we used to meet along the way are now mixed among the masses of others and we feel like fishes out of the bowl, alone in the multitude. From my experience, I know that it’s a feeling that will disappear tomorrow, when we will reach Santiago. We just need to wait!

Durante tutto il percorso di oggi, la mia attenzione è andata di più verso i tanti pellegrini, che alla natura che mi circondava, anche perché ormai il territorio è urbanizzato e di poco interesse, se si eccettua la maestosità degli eucalipti che qui hanno dimora e che sempre mi affascinano.

Today, during the whole way my attention was more on the so many pilgrims, rather than on the nature around me, also because now the land is very urbanized, so not very interesting, apart from the majesty of the eucalyptus trees that have made this land their home and that keep on attracting me.

I venti chilometri di oggi son passati senza che me ne accorgessi e senza sforzo siamo arrivati a Pedrouzo. È un piccolo paese di poche anime che sembrano tutte dedite ad accogliere la massa di pellegrini in movimento.  Albergue, pensioni, alberghi, ristoranti, supermercati, farmacie, tutto sembra specializzato nell’aiutare i pellegrini. Ovunque, immagini di pellegrini erranti e nomi di esercizi commerciali che riprendono il tema del pellegrinaggio. Ormai, più ci avviciniamo a Santiago e più il pellegrino diventa il fulcro di tutto. Era ben diversa l’atmosfera quando eravamo impegnati ad affrontare le fatiche dei difficili percorsi asturiani!

Today’s 20 km passed so smoothly that I didn’t even notice them and without much effort we reached Pedrouzo. It is a small village with not many inhabitants, but all looking very busy welcoming the masses of pilgrims in constant movement. Albergue, guesthouses, hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies, everything looks devoted to assist pilgrims. Everywhere you see pictures of pilgrims and shops, hotel and restaurant names inspired by the pilgrims. The nearer we get to Santiago, the more everything becomes all about pilgrims. The atmosphere was so completely different when we were struggling to make it across the difficult Asturian paths!

Anche oggi abbiamo trovato un ottimo albergo, semplice, ma accogliente, moderno e pulito, il “Pension 9 de Abril” col suo gentilissimo proprietario, Irnerio, che ci ha accolti in modo premuroso e affabile.

Also today, we have found an excellent hotel, simple, but welcoming, modern and clean. It’s the “Pension 9 de Abril” with its really kind owner, Imerio, who has welcomed us in such a thoughtful and affable way.
