Stamane, colazione eccellente che ci ha dato la giusta energia per affrontare il Cammino.

This morning the breakfast was excellent and it gave us the right amount of energy to undertake the Camino.

Si esce da Lugo tra traffico, sopraelevate e superstrade. Alle spalle lasciamo gli alti edifici abbarbicati sulla roccia di Lugo.

We exited Lugo among traffic, overhead speedways and highways. We leave behind us the tall buildings perched on Lugo’s rock.

Si inizia a salire in forte pendenza fra villette di nuova costruzione, fino ad arrivare su un pianoro da cui i rumori della città si sentono ovattati fino a scomparire del tutto. La campagna è ora davanti a noi, alternata da boschetti di pini e querce e belle villette dai colori più vari e sempre rifinite con la pietra locale di color grigio chiaro.

We started walking up hill on a very steep path surrounded by recently built villas, which then transformed into a plateau where with every step you hear one noise less from the busy city. With more walking, we become surrounded by the countryside with pine and oak trees woods and villas colored with the most variety and always decorated with a finishing touch by the local light grey stone.

Si prosegue sempre dritto e, tra morbidi saliscendi, si supera l’alto de Soane. La campagna intorno a noi è ricca, coi campi separati da siepi curate e, qua e là, enormi querce e castagni.

We kept on walking straight, and between gentle ups and downs, we passed the Alto de Soane. The countryside surrounding us is rich, with the farmlands separated by well maintained hedge plants and, here and there, huge oak and chestnut trees.

Con breve deviazione di 2 chilometri si raggiunge Santa Eulalia di Bóveda, chiesa sotterranea, unica nel suo genere. Purtroppo, dopo opportuna telefonata al custode, abbiamo saputo che di lunedì è chiusa. Abbiamo, perciò, deciso di proseguire rassegnati.

From here, with a short deviation of 2 km, the Santa Eulalia de Bóveda can be reached. It is an underground church, unique in its kind. Unfortunately though, after calling the guardian, he tells us that Monday is closed. We then decided to continue our way.. we didn’t have much choice.

Con tanta amarezza ho constatato una notevole mancanza di rispetto verso quei pellegrini che, seppure affaticati, decidono di fare la deviazione. Allego la foto da cui si può vedere lo stato di abbandono delle insegne stradali su cui, oltre che tenerle pulite dalle erbacce, per rispetto verso i pellegrini, potrebbe essere applicato un cartello con gli orari di apertura.

With bitterness I noticed a lack of respect towards those pilgrims who, even though tired, make the effort to make the deviation and visit the church. I attach some pictures where you can see the status of uttermost neglect of the road signs which, apart from keeping them clean from weeds, as a sign of respect towards the pilgrims, they could also attach a sign with the opening hours.

Dopo l’amara constatazione, proseguiamo il percorso che ci porterà fino alla meta di oggi, in un paesaggio rurale che ha come dominante l’odore acre del letame usato in questa stagione per concimare i campi.

After this disappointing stop, we continue along our original path of the day which follows us with a pungent smell from the manure used to fertilize the fields.

Poco prima del nostro “Albergue”, ci siamo fermati al caffè “Taberna San Roman” per il boccadillo di rito. Abbiamo goduto della compagnia di due pellegrini londinesi che continuiamo ad incontrare piacevolmente qua e là sul Cammino.

Just a little before our Albergue, we stopped at a café “Taberna San Roman” for the usual boccadillo. We also enjoyed the company of two British pilgrims whom we continue to bump into.

È una delle caratteristiche del Cammino quella di rincontrare sempre gli stessi pellegrini, quelli cioè partiti lo stesso giorno dalla prima tappa, in questo caso, Oviedo, e che, chi più velocemente, chi più lentamente e anche più dolorosamente, arrivano sempre alla stessa meta del giorno. Qui ci si può incontrare in albergo o al ristorante o passeggiando o al supermercato. Alla fine del Cammino, può capitare di ritrovare gli stessi pellegrini anche alla cerimonia del Botafumeiro nella cattedrale di Santiago.

It is a characteristic of the Camino to always bump into the same pilgrims, these who left from the first place as you at the very beginning of the Camino, in this case Oviedo, and who a bit more quickly, who slowly or aching, arrives always at the same stop of the day. You can bump into each other at the hotel, at the restaurant, while walking, or even at the supermarket. At the end of Camino you could even find the same pilgrims you started with at the Botafumeiro in the Santiago Cathedral.

La struttura dove alloggiamo questa sera è al limite dell’accettabile, ma non c’è scelta. Domani forse sarà meglio.

The guesthouse was we are staying tonight is at the limit of what is acceptable, but we had no other choise. Tomorrow maybe it will be better.
