2-Si può fare rifornimento d’acqua solo all’albergo dell’Embalse.

Tip of the day: 1) No phone network for half of the way. 3G connects only near Grandas; 2) The water bottle can be refilled only at the hotel of Embalse.

La caratteristica del percorso di oggi è l’ardesia. Per venti chilometri, l’ardesia fa mostra di sé in tutta la sua bellezza, sia come pareti rocciose a strapiombo, sia come tetti dai lunghi spioventi sapientemente sagomati dai locali, sia come muri a secco dalle più diverse forme. Tutto questo, avvolto da una fitta nebbia che dava al paesaggio un aspetto quasi fiabesco.

The characteristic of today’s path is the slate. For 20 km, the slate shows itself in all its beauty, on rock slopes, on steep roofs and on different kinds of dry stone walls. All this, enveloped in a thick fog which made the scenary look like a fable.

La zona oggi attraversata è quasi disabitata. Si arriva a circa 1000 m di altitudine, tra boschi fitti di conifere che, improvvisamente, mentre si scende verso l’Embalse de Salime, il punto più basso, a circa 200 m. di altitudine, lasciano il posto ai castagni.

Today’s path is almost uninhabited. We reached almost 1000 meters of altitude among thick forests of conifers which suddenly leave space to chestnuts when we descended towards the Salime Reservoir, the lowest point, at about 200 meters.

Per tutta la discesa fino alla diga, si riesce ad intravvedere, tra gli alberi, il grande bacino idrico formato dal Rio Navia. Tutt’intorno, le rovine degli alloggi per gli operai impegnati nella costruzione della diga inaugurata nel 1954. Nel grande lago si riflettono le ripide pendici della gola, rendendo le sue acque cupe anche col sole.

During all the descent until the dam, we could take a glimpse, in between the trees, the large water reservoir formed by the Rio Navia. All around we could spot the ruins of the accomodations of the workers who built the dam opened in 1954. In the large lake we could see the reflections of the steep slopes of the gorge, making the waters look dark and deep even under the sun.

Al bar sopra la diga, una sosta è d’obbligo per un boccadillo e un caffè. Il panorama della sua terrazza rende ancora più piacevole la sosta.

We stopped at the bar over the dam for a boccadillo and a coffee. The panorama on the terrace makes the stop even more pleasant.

Si arriva a Grandas de Salime dopo una salita di circa 5 chilometri che, dopo i 15 già nelle gambe, risultano più pesanti di quanto si possa immaginare.

We reached Grandas de Salime after a slope up-hill of about 5 km, which after the 15 km already walked, felt extremely tough.

La pensione “A Reigada” che ci ospita, è pulita, ma molto semplice. Siamo comunque contenti di poterci riposare bene per affrontare la lunga tappa di domani di quasi 30 chilometri.

The guesthouse “A Reigada” is clean, but very simple. We are very happy we can rest well as tomorrow we will have a tough day of almost 30 km.
